We are ruled by our environment and its dominance
imposes a special sense of peace. Given such a
generous piece of land with such a spectacular view,
the least one could do, having planned and built this
residence, is to enjoy the imposing views over the
peaks and valleys of Altos del María.
A huge and
beautiful Corotú tree stands guard over the secrets of
its past, providing shade for those who now build their
houses safe under its shelter.
The architect and future occupants worked together
to design what today has become a reality: a country
house but with all the comforts of a home in the city.
The house is divided into distinct areas, providing
in turn the living space, bedrooms, bathrooms and
another that is in effect a small house, joined to the
main space but independent. Work has hardly started
on the vast garden that surrounds both the residence
and the swimming pool, but it is beginning to reflect
the influences of people who love planning and who take their environment and surroundings seriously.
Viewed from a distance, the house
displays the natural materials that were employed in its construction: mainly thatch, wood, tiles, flat river stone and stones, paying tribute to its
natural surroundings.
On passing through the main entrance, we come across a small cabin to the right that gives the house an authentic country feel. This leads on
to a specially designed kitchen which is practical and very functional.
To the left, a staircase leads to the second floor and a bedroom with its
own well proportioned terrace and balcony. The view from here is simply spectacular.
Downstairs are two more bedrooms, and naturally all the
bedrooms have bathrooms en suite. The general proportions and dimensions of the house and its various spaces provide a feeling of being
drawn together, which is only achieved when the correct proportions are kept between furnishings, decoration and space.
The small house mentioned above has two more small rooms, a bathroom and open plan kitchen.
The designer has had fun with this space,
which has clearly been given over to thatch. It seems to want to shelter us under its fronds, inviting us to play “hide and go seek”, giving a very
special feel both to its interior and its frontage.
Many styles stand out in this valley but the style of this house will begin to influence the rest of the development. We congratulate the owners,
who once again are people who, like many others, have migrated here to put down roots in our tiny but grand country.
Without doubt, in a house
like this you can enjoy each dawn and sunset to the accompaniment |
