The 2007 International Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland, which for the 77th time will bring together the world’s most prestigious car manufacturers, is a mouth watering proposition; a deluge of premieres, new exhibitors — mainly from China and Russia —, new exhibition space offering greater comfort to visitors to the 250 exhibition stands from all over the world, laid out over 77,000
square meters in the Palexpo. The organizers are expecting some 700,000 visitors from five continents during the eleven days that the show is open to the public.

More than eighty new vehicle launches have been announced from European manufacturers alone; there are also new exhibitors who will be showing vehicles such as the Brilliance from China, the Russia-Baltic KTM and the Abarth and Donkervoort badges that have been re-launched.

This Motor Show will attract a huge range of models from all around the world including a wide variety of the latest vehicles. Choosing between them is a tall order, especially when one is tempted to choose vehicles that appeal to our more outrageous fantasies rather than to fulfill our everyday dreams.

However this time we have allowed ourselves to be led by common sense and we want to present a family car: the new Volvo V70 - MY2007. The Volvo has shown that it is definitely not a sports wagon, a description much used by European manufacturers for their station wagons; the Volvo V 70 is a station wagon in the true sense of the description, and which above all embodies the practicalities of this type of vehicle.

This luxurious and prestigious family station wagon combines technological refinement, safety and power in a curvaceous and elegant body, executed with refinement down to the last detail. The new V70 is handsome, effortlessly efficient and unashamedly family friendly; it is roomier, with 19 cubic feet of load carrying space and a wider rear door for greater ease of access. There is a choice of engine to suit everybody’s taste, with a new 3.0 liter turbo engine producing 285 HP, a 3.2 liter straight 6 cylinder 238 BHP engine, a 200 BHP 2.5 liter unit and two diesel versions.

The V70 has been designed and equipped to offer safety and protection; it boasts internal and external safety systems that work together to reduce the risk of injury to occupants in the event of a collision. The bodywork has been designed to deform in a controlled way, absorbing and distributing the impact of a collision in order to protect the passenger compartment. Interior safety systems keep passengers in their places, protecting them with active devices such as the inflatable curtain (IC), the new side impact protection system (SIPS), and the WHIPS system designed to protect the neck by restricting head movement. The design incorporates accident prevention systems such as the PCC that monitors the driver’s pulse and detects signs of drowsiness, the Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) that includes a feature that puts incoming phone calls on hold when the car is in complex traffic conditions that require the driver’s full attention.

Stability and traction controls are fitted as standard. The turbo model is equipped with all wheel drive and the Four C Suspension System is available as an optional extra.
