The classical Hotel Casco Viejo will be refurbished with a contemporary concept.
It’s not an easy task to merge the cosmopolitan life style of present day Panama with the classic style of past times. Even though, this historical and emblematic hotel will be restored in a more contemporary design with the approval received by the Historical Committee. Ariel Espino, director of the Casco Antiguo Office, observes that “the Casco Antiguo Office supports this project, not only for recovering an emblematic hotel, but also for its social contribution.”
Built in 1923, this Spanish-style five stories condo-hotel will have 74 units. Its aim is to retrieve the luxury boasted by this metropolis in past ages. Focusing on the exciting life of Casco Viejo, most of the Hotel Casco Antiguo’s rooms will bear individual balconies with preferential views to the city or to the main courtyard. Every resident will feel the ancient European influence thanks to the hotel's design, while enjoying the thrill of being in one of the country’s most visited destinations.
The Historical Casco Antiguo, included in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, is undergoing a revival due to local businesses that seek to retake the three hundred years of Spanish and French roots. The forecast is for this district to have refurbished most of the city’s properties within ten years. Growth is credited to the increasing investment experienced during all this time. Being style one of its top priorities, the Hotel Casco Antiguo has incorporated to its team the architectural company of Hache Uve, devoted to historical restorations, and which have works like the National Theatre, Callejón del Chicheme (Chicheme Alley), Canos Endara Museum and the renowned Benedetti estate.
This hotel will be upgraded within two construction phases. The first one will overtake renovation of 34 rooms, one terrace in the attic and a bar named “Reflections”, in addition to refurbishing of the main courtyard, which keeps its original Muslin style tiles, and will have a club named “Celebrations”. The second phase will begin construction six months later, in which forty more rooms will be added, an upscale spa named “Meditations”, and an exclusive terrace and bar which will connect both buildings. Conclusion of the first stage is anticipated for mid 2009.
The property will include many amenities, such as an outdoor pool on the building’s roof in which to contemplate spectacular views of the city, a Mediterranean style restaurant and Concierge Desk. Beach tours, trips to Taboga Island, the Panama Canal, rainforests or downtown Panama City could be arranged through the hotel. The pieces from this fascinating puzzle will be reflected on a very evocative business investment, besides being a wonderful place to get relaxation from daily stress, having restaurants, bars and stores within easy reach.
