The senses – those that come alive when we smell something pleasant or nasty; the sense of sight, that is either delighted or scandalized by what our eyes capture; the sounds that reach our ears, to sooth us with music or deafen us with noise; regardless of which sense we think of, each and every one of them provides us with responses to the way we experience life. But what ingratitude we show towards them! We think they are just there because they have to be, and it is not until we lose one of them that we realize just how important they are.
Would we be able to enjoy daily life in the same way without them? Could we appreciate so many of the things that appear common place but in fact are not? If we knew that we would not always have all of our senses, maybe we would be more aware and appreciative of them. A trip to the beach or the forest would not be the same without our sight, or if our senses of smell and hearing abandoned us. Breakfast without the aroma of coffee, fried eggs and toast would lose much of its attraction. A concert just wouldn’t be the same for most of us if we could not hear the music. And what would a world without color be like, without the huge range of tones that surround us and keep our eyes in constant motion?
Without our senses there would also not be much point in producing any more editions of our magazine. Delighting the senses is an important part of our objective when we present rich content and attractive photos in our sections on art, architecture, decoration, fashion, tourism, hotels, cars, recipes etc. This is how we know that we have fulfilled our mission.
So we hope that you will really enjoy this new edition. |
