We get up in automatic mode. We go to the bathroom, turn on the tap, wash our face, and use a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush our teeth, a hairbrush to tame our disheveled hair.
We go to the kitchen, get the coffee maker ready and switch it on, then we get the sliced bread out of the fridge and put some in the toaster. We get the frying pan ready to fry some eggs, we turn on the stove and this is how we get ready for a day in which we will unconsciously use the huge number of things that mankind has invented throughout history.
Sometimes when I manage to “put the world on hold” for long enough, I stop and think of all the things that mankind has changed and created, and I am always amazed at our enormous capacity for inventiveness. Of course there are still some inventions that would be very useful, like something to reduce noise levels and make our everyday lives more comfortable. Maybe a vacuum cleaner or food mixer with a silencer, because I confess that when I am using these household conveniences, I wonder how we have managed to travel to other planets, and yet we still cannot solve these very earth bound problems. And talking of space travel, did you know that you can journey into space without being an astronaut? Yes, today even this is possible and we have reached the part of the “journey” that awaits you as you read this edition, and we hope that once again you will enjoy it.
