The Agua Madre [Mother Water] exhibition produced by Albatross Media will be staged in Panama during the months of September and October, as part of the Arte por la Tierra [Art for the Earth] event organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Panama’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Multiplaza Pacific Mall join the regional campaign to preserve water catchment areas.
The photos on display at Agua Madre, taken by Alejandro Balaguer of Albatross Media, are aimed at raising the level of awareness of the Americas’ water treasures in the face of the current climate crisis.
It is hard to think about a world without water. And most of all in Latin America where this vital liquid is so abundant in so many different forms. Lakes, bays, rivers, snow and ice are all to be found together, like in no other part of the world. Although we are aware of the devastation brought about by global warming, it nevertheless requires a big effort of the imagination to visualize what our continent would be like without water. Because we still have it. Even though there is no scientific proof as to how much longer this will be the case.
Droughts, thawing of the poles and glaciers, storms and floods are all presenting mankind with an uncertain future, and all are the consequences of climate change caused by the unsustainable consumption of fossil fuels and deforestation. Events which make us treasure even more the vital liquid that sustains life for millions of human beings.
As a result the Albatross Media Foundation, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) will stage a touring exhibition of photographs, titled Agua Madre, Verdades e Imágenes [Mother water – truths and images] - as part of the Arte por la Tierra event being organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Multiplaza Pacific Mall.
The exhibition produced by the Albatross Media Foundation – using photographs taken in Antarctica and South and Central America – shows how Latin America is a water world, but can only continue to be so if the water sources that sustain the biodiversity of the multitude of ecosystems based on its valuable water catchment areas, are maintained in a healthy state. This series of images is therefore intended to awaken the conscience of our people as to the value of this shared resource that is vital for our very existence.
