| When the architects responsible for designing Sayan, one of Sunny Isles Beach’s most exclusive apartment buildings, started out, they had an idea that at first glance seemed crazy: combining the exotic, cheerful and almost provocative character of Miami, with the aura of spirituality that surrounds the South Pacific.
Sensuality and spirituality in the same design? It might sound crazy but is definitely possible. And architects from the firm of Sieger Suárez, winner of countless awards for the luxury residential developments that they have built in Florida, took on the task of bringing this vision to fruition. The result is a 30 storey tower housing 92 apartments, each one of them reflecting in every detail the concept developed by the architect.
Without doubt, Sayan attracts the attention of everyone who passes through the small community of Sunny Isles Beach, located in the extreme north of Biscayne Bay. And we can assure you that these are not people who are easily impressed. After all, since gaining city status in 1997, this area has witnessed unprecedented growth in the construction of luxury residential developments.
Nevertheless, the Sayan tower stands out even against this background of luxury, simply because of this interplay between the sensual and the spiritual that we referred to above. Its facade is the first indication of the surprises that lie in wait on the inside. It’s clean straight lines rise majestically just a few meters from the beach, very much in tune with twenty first century architectural trends, but also giving us a hint of the Art Deco styling that is to be found in its Mecca, Miami. This reference to the past is both disturbing but at the same time, enthralling.
Suddenly the simplicity of the walls is broken by a mural in homage to the tree of life, the work of the Howard Design group. It’s a simple detail, but one that clearly demonstrates that the really important things in life are always determined by a higher power.
As we pass into the building’s interior, Sayan sustains this dichotomy. The spacious entrance lobby rubs shoulders with leafy tropical vegetation – leaving no room for doubt about where we are – with the waterfall that erupts from the fourth floor level and descends into mirror pools, very redolent of Zen. The wooden floors, always warm, captivating, hard, exotic, contrasting with the wrought iron detailing of the doors and decorations, including hand carved Buddhist figures, which are the clearest possible indication of the influence of the Southern Oceans.
These different elements combine with one more characteristic: the most exquisite embodiment of luxury and comfort. After all, Sayan is much more than simply an architectural edifice. It is also a place to live in expansive comfort. And this approach is manifest in the apartments, with floor areas from 1,222 to 3,411 square feet.
Each of these residences is designed to provide its occupants with comfort and style. There are only two apartments on each floor, and they are served by private elevators. They all have spectacular balconies with views over the 2.4km of beach, the contemporary architecture of the city, or its unusual canal system, which has given Sunny Isles Beach the name of ‘The Vienna of Florida’.
As well as the generous space, with 2.8 meter ceiling heights, the apartments are exclusively equipped. Granite tables in the kitchen combine with limited edition Italian furniture. Bathroom and toilet fittings are by the internationally recognized name of Kohler. Electric appliances also bear the internationally famous brand names of Whirlpool and KitchenAid. As we said – only the best of the best.
However, the very last word in luxury and good taste is reserved for the penthouse. This covers an area of 5,030 square feet, with 5 bedrooms and 5½ bathrooms. Its balconies cover an area of 1,107 square feet and offer a 180 degree view of the city and the ocean. To give you an idea of the surprises in store, it is sufficient to mention that the master bathroom has its own waterfall. The penthouse costs USD 5.5 million. The other apartments, from one, two or three bedrooms, are priced at between USD525, 000 and USD1, 265,000.
An investment here not only allows residents to enjoy the comforts of their own apartment, but also to enjoy the other facilities that the building has to offer: the Asian inspired spa, lounge areas, air-conditioned pool with its Balinese style roof, social area, valet parking and concierge service, private beach club, library, gymnasium, gardens and sophisticated security system.
These facilities are clear evidence that Sayan is much more than just an eye catching exterior. Its interior is also packed with innovative and interesting features. The development is proof that even the most random ideas can be successful, provided that they are executed with quality and good taste. Thus it is that in this place the spirit of the South Seas is blended with Florida’s exotic temperament, and the result could not be more exquisite.
